Young Aatos is burdened by the weight of a secret, which strains his love for his dear football hobby and his efforts to maintain friendships. Superstitious 7-year-old Lycke and her grandfather set off to pick chanterelles from their secret mushroom spot. Along the way, Grandpa tells her a legend about the Elf Ring and its dangers. The boat trip back home is not without problems and when they get back, the mother tells her that the grandfather is in poor health. Lycke decides to save her grandfather.
